Frequently asked questions
How does the audiobook maker work?
Paste your book or upload a .txt or .md file. It is split at the chapter headings (“Chapter 1”, “# Title”, “Prologue”) and every chapter is voiced in turn in the voice you picked. Play or download each chapter as it finishes, then download the whole book as one file.
How long can the book be?
Up to 200,000 characters at a time — roughly a 35,000-word novella. A chapter longer than 5,000 characters is split into parts at paragraph breaks. For a longer book, voice it in two halves.
How much does an audiobook cost?
0.5 credit per 1,000 characters, the same as text to speech, so a 100,000-character book is about 50 credits. In 26 languages, such as Bengali, Urdu, Swahili and Welsh, the speech is also matched to the voice, which adds 1 credit per minute of audio (30 seconds at least). The card shows the price for the whole book before you start, and a failed chapter gives its credits back.
Can I stop and carry on later?
Yes, while the page is open: press “Stop after this chapter”, then “Continue the audiobook”. Chapters already voiced are kept and aren’t charged again. Editing the text starts the chapters over.
Can I narrate it in my own voice?
Yes. Clone your voice once from a short sample and pick it under “Your voices”.
Which files can I upload?
.txt and .md files up to 2 MB. For EPUB, PDF or Word, copy the text and paste it in.
Does it translate the book?
No — it reads the text as written, in the language you pick. Paste a translated text to get an audiobook in another language.
Can I voice any book?
Only books you wrote or have the rights to. Publishing a recording of someone else’s book needs the rights holder’s permission.
